    Michael started his athletic career at Indiana State University as a Division 1 Wrestler, specializing in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. At the same time, a local Rugby club grabbed his attention and upon making the team was invited to travel to England for a season of English Div 1 club rugby. Michael was selected to play Wing for the USA Eagles National Rugby Team from 1988-1989 until a torn ACL ended his competitive career. Michael went on to coach the US Air Force Academy Rugby Team in Colorado Springs and brought them to the National Collegiate Championship, finishing 3rd in 1994 and 2nd in 1995.

    Michael continued his pursuit of fitness and improving the human condition through sport when in 2004 a former Air Force Academy player introduced him to CrossFit. He immediately joined to become Crossfit’s 15th Affiliate. Now CrossFit boasts over 4,400 Affiliates. Michael is the head coach and owner of CrossFitHB. He is an avid sports fan, and is an expert in re-fermented beer.

    After a humbling first night of rugby practice in the Fall of 2012 Alex was told to try Crossfit to get into real shape. It was there, at CrossFit Huntington Beach, that he discovered the true meaning of fitness and never looked back. The progress he made in CrossFit inspired him to help others and he started pursuing a degree in kinesiology in the Spring of 2014 as well as start coaching in the Summer of 2014.
