Maximum results with minimum time and equipment—Jeff Martone of Tactical Athlete will show you how.
We are hosting a Kettlebell Trainer Course here at CrossFit Huntington Beach on Saturday March 15th and Sunday March 16th. Jeff Martone, the owner of Tactical Athlete Training Systems, developed and teaches the two-day course. Jeff was one of the first certified senior kettlebell instructors in the United States, and he has achieved the rank of MS (Master of Sports) in Long Cycle and CMS (Candidate Master of Sports) in Snatch.  He is also a 3xNorth American record holder in Kettlebell Sport, as well as the author of seven training DVDs and the best-selling books Kettlebell Rx and Jeff Martone’s WODbook. He was the first person to implement kettlebell training in a federal law enforcement agency and has offered instructor-level certifications since 2004. He has over twenty years of experience as a defensive tactics, firearms, and special response-team instructor. He also recently had an awesome video featured on CrossFit HQ’s website!

I spoke with Jeff and he addressed some frequently asked questions about the kettlebell trainer course:

Do I need to be a coach to attend this course?

No, this course is open to anyone interested in maximizing personal performance! It will open up a world of new kettlebell techniques that will enhance your CrossFit programming. If you are a coach, you will also acquire skills to be a proficient kettlebell instructor. You will learn how to effectively teach kettlebell exercises, quickly detect and correct common errors, and safely conduct kettlebell training.

Is there a written test?

No, this course is strictly performance based.

What course materials, if any, come with this course?

Each participant will receive a PDF version of the original manual when they register. This manual includes detailed exercise descriptions, progressions, photos, training tips, and program design.

Are there any pre-requisites for this course?

No, anyone can attend. However, in order to receive a Trainer Certificate for the Kettlebell Gymnastics Trainer Course one must hold a valid and current Level 1 Trainer Certificate. If you attend and do not hold a valid and current Level 1 Trainer Certificate, you will be issued a Certificate of Attendance.

The workshop will run from 8:30 am – 5 pm on Saturday March 15th and Sunday March 16th. Everyone is welcome and you can register HERE. As Jeff reminded me, kettlebell training is very complimentary to Olympic weightlifting, and it will increase your flexibility, joint mobility, and range of motion. It is also excellent for training around an injury, as the kettlebells are more forgiving than the bar. So whether you are a coach looking to improve your teaching or are simply looking to improve your own performance, come spend your weekend at CrossFit Huntington Beach becoming an even better athlete!
